Apprentice Lineman
Wheatland Rural Electric Association (REA) in Wheatland, Wyoming, is seeking an Apprentice Lineman. The successful applicant must complete a paid four-year apprenticeship program. Must maintain a positive attitude and respect for all members and employees. Applicant must be willing to work long hours and be willing to travel occasionally. Apprentices work under the guidance of Journeyman Linemen to perform the required work safely.
The job duties and responsibilities include:
- Observe and follow all safety rules, attend regularly scheduled job training, and safety programs.
- Must recognize, avoid, and communicate safety hazards.
- Construction, maintenance, and operation of the electrical system above and below ground.
- Ability to learn and operate vehicles and equipment under supervision.
- Required to participate in on-call rotations for outages and service interruptions outside of business hours.
- Required to complete a 4-year apprentice program. This includes hands on and written tests with passing grades.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and be able to acquire a Wyoming class A CDL while employed.
- Trims trees and clears right of way.
- Must reside within an approved proximity to our shop.
- Pass a pre-employment drug test and subject to drug testing while employed.
- Must be a team player.
- Must be able to effectively read and follow operations and safety manuals.
- Must be able to communicate with other personnel to solve problems.
Working conditions:
- Work inside and outside year-round in inclement and varying weather conditions.
- Occasionally work in noisy environments where hearing protection is required.
Physical demands:
- Good physical condition and dexterity is required. This includes walking, stopping, bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, crawling, pushing, pulling, working in awkward positions and enclosed spaces. Lifting 75 lbs. is frequently required, with occasional lifting more than 75 lbs.
- Able to work at heights above 70 feet.
